There were many things that I anticipated about gaining licensure to practice architecture. Having worked in the profession for seventeen years, I have seen much and learned even more about the profession. The nature of how TECH operates, I did not foresee much change to my daily routine or responsibilities. Over the last five years I have operated fairly autonomously under the supervision of a licensed professional.
However, even as my daily responsibilities have not changed much, what I did not anticipate was the weight. I knew this role came with more responsibility, but I did not foresee the internal change in how I perceived a design or the construction there of.
Just before Christmas I signed the drawings for my first project as a licensed architect. The work is for a small addition and substantial interior renovations for a local church. Unlike most of the ministries we serve with that are scattered across the world, this one is close enough to have the opportunity to observe the construction. As unusual of a sensation as it was to sign the documents, stepping onto the site to see the building under construction was surreal. To see the building taking shape is both satisfying and humbling.
I look forward to observing the progress and assisting the church and contractor, as they work toward completion this fall. May the Lord use this Body in that utilizes this facility to reach and minister to the community that we call home
