I am a Texas girl. I was born here and it is home. I love the diversity of scenery, weather, culture, and food through the state. It is beautiful.
That being said, the mountain, specifically Pike’s Peak, are always a reminder of God’s wonder and design in nature. Maybe it’s because I have memories of visiting the Pike’s Peak area when I was young with my family, grandparents, and great grandma. Maybe it’s because Colorado is where Eric grew up and I love hearing his stories. Maybe it is because I live in east Texas where mountains are nonexistent.
The mountains are both the same and different when I see them. They are as lovely when snow capped in the winter as they are when bare and green in the summer. I’ve seen them first thing in the morning, all lit up by the sun in the east and majestically silhouetted by the setting sun in the west. I’ve stood in their shadows and gazed upon them from afar. It isn’t that the mountains change, but my perception and awareness does.
The mountains remind me of God. They remind me of how big God is. How He is both always present and often forgotten in the background. So when I visit the mountains, they remind me to focus on God and His presence in my life.
Below are some of the pictures from this last trip. The last picture of the girls looking out the back window was the last time we could see any mountains on this trip.
